[A car pulls up outside Madison Square Garden, New York. It is dusk, and the car's headlights send a glare into the camera. From the car steps Tim Dross, who addresses the camera:] TD: Welcome everybody to Madison Square Garden, New York. In just about twenty-four hours from now, this sidewalk will be awash with fans as they pour into the world's favourite arena to witness the hottest night of action you can see all summer long. I am, of course, talking about IIWF Midsummer Madness, where we'll see a new IIWF World Heavyweight Champion crowned. Tonight, in this special edition of the report, we'll be hearing from the teams who'll be in the heat of the action tomorrow night in front of a live audience of millions around the world. This is it, folks - we're just one day away from IIWF Midsummer Madness. [Opening graphics as Dross enters MSG through the front doors.] .---------------------------------------------------------------------. | M + A + R + C + H T + O | `---------------------------------------------------------------------' ##### ###### ### ########## ########## ########## #### ## ########## ########## ########## #### # #### ######## ##### ##### #### ## ##### #### #### #### #### ### #### #### #### #### ############# ######### #### #### ########### ######### #### #### #### #### #### ######### ######### ### #### #### ######### ######### ### ## #### ######## ######## ## # #### ## MM M I DDD SS U U MM M MM M EEE RRR M M M I D D S U U M M M M M M E R R M M M I D D SS U U M M M M M M EEE RRR M M M I DDD S UU M M M M M M E R R S E R SSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS M A D N E S S EEEEEEEE R .---------------------------------------------------------------------. | w i t h T i m D r o s s | `---------------------------------------------------------------------' [Fade through to Dross sitting in the ringside area. Various crews work behind him, fitting a lighting rig and assembling the ring.] Howdy, folks. Things have really been heating up in the IIWF as of late, but tomorrow night, "hot" isn't even going to begin to describe the action we're going to see. Six eight-man elimination tag team matches will root out the survivors from the victims. Those survivors will then pick sides and go up against one another in the final Survivors Match, until there is only one man standing; and that one man will be crowned the IIWF Champion. Tonight, I'm going to run down the card, and pick the men who I think will survive and go through to the final match. We'll be hearing from the IIWF superstars themselves as they make their final preparations, and I'll be picking my choice for the new IIWF World Heavyweight Champion. But first, let's just remind ourselves of the precise rules of the elimination matches. One man from each team of four is allowed in the ring at any one time, and in that respect, these matches are similar to standard tag team encounters. All decisions will count, including countouts, disqualification and pinfalls. However, when one member of a team is pinned, the match does not end; the battle continues until all the members of one team have been eliminated, by whatever decision. Just think about the possibilities this creates: matches could end up one on one, two on one, two on two, three on two, or even four on one! The possibilities are almost endless! The survivors of the six initial matches then go on to a final Survivors Match, the rules of which are identical to the above elimination matches, but with one important difference: once all the members of one team have been eliminated, the surviving members of the "victorious" team must then go at it, every man for himself. Alliances will have to be put aside, and the desire for the gold will be the deciding factor. After two gruelling matches, what kind of condition are the men left in the ring going to be in at the end of this Survivors Match. Truly, the last man left standing will have earned the IIWF World Heavyweight Championship. So those are the rules. But, more importantly, we're going to see a titanic struggle tomorrow night as teams put aside personal differences and their own egos in an effort to band together and overcome a common enemy. I predict that we're going to see some very surprising performances tomorrow night. Right now, let's take a more detailed look at each of the matches in turn: =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= BRUTE FORCE vs. GROUND ZERO Robski (c) "Nuclear" John Bomber (c) Magus Crimson Storm Guiding Lights Steamroller =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This opener is certainly going to start things off with a real bang in the Garden tomorrow night! Looking at the two teams, it seems that a classic strength vs. skill battle is on the cards. Brute Force certainly live up to their name; Magus is a lunatic who possesses a huge array of high-impact power moves in his arsenal; the Guiding Lights add a certain technical skill to the team, but they're no strangers to knock-down, drag-out brawls either. The team captain, Robski, is still at the centre of considerable controversy, but that can't be allowed to overshadow his wrestling skills. Robski is a big man, a brawler, with a lot of power moves in his repertoire. What he lacks in speed he makes up for in endurance, and he can take punishment almost as well as he can dish it out. Let's hear from the controversial one himself: [SCENE: Robski and Max sit in their apartment. Max plays a video tape of the IIWF President's comments about Robski from Midweek Mayhem.] Max: Seen this, Robski? Robski: What's that? Max: The President of the IIWF is unhappy about you. Robski: Me? WHY? Max: Over our little altercation with the journalist. Robski: Well, I WILL DO WHATEVER I HAVE TO in order to protect my livelihood and my freedom. The woman was a fool, she DESERVED what she got, and there are no incriminating documents left either, I think. Well, we know that all the documents in England have "vanished"... I am not so sure about some of the others, so we will have to wait and see. Max: He intimated that the CIA may well be interested in you... Robski: President or not, Danny Boy, if YOU have set the wolves on me, I will get to you before they get to me, and take that HOW YOU WILL. Max: We've got to go now to a business lunch. I am surprised anyone ever believed you had inherited your wealth, Robski. Robski: Why? Max: Your father is still alive! [Both laugh] Robski: They're dumb, they're Americans. [They leave. Fade] So how do the opposition match up? There are a number of variables on the Ground Zero team. The captain, "Nuclear" John Bomber, matches Magus in stature, and to some extent in style, but thus far his results in the IIWF have been disappointing. Perhaps it could be put down to teething troubles, but to date, despite putting together some very impressive high-impact offence, he seems to be inconsistent in his performances. Next to nothing is known about Crimson Storm, although we can fathom that he is an impressive light heavyweight, who is as aerially skilled as he is on the mat. He could certainly be one to watch here in the IIWF. The final important element in the Ground Zero team are the former IIWF Tag Team Champions, Steamroller, now without their manager, Dave Albanese, and displaying a new attitude to the fans. Some observers have criticised this new attitude, and state that Steamroller without Albanese will undoubtedly lose their ruthless edge, the ruthless edge that took them to the IIWF World Tag Team gold at Coronation Clash several months ago. Myself, I don't doubt their credibility, and I think they will still prove to be a force to be reckoned with in this match. The longer this one goes, the more it goes in the favour of Ground Zero. However, if the big men such as Robski and Magus manage to pull out their power moves early on, we could see a couple of quick eliminations, which would undoubtedly stack the odds in the favour of Brute Force. However, I believe that Taylor, Brassow and Crimson Storm will certainly be an effective trio, and if Bomber can string together one of his better performances, he could provide the edge in power that Ground Zero will need. I'm going to go with Ground Zero in this one, and I pick Crimson Storm and Brassow, the bigger of the two men in Steamroller, to survive and progress to the final match. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= THE PATRIOTS vs. BATTLE ZONE Ron Fire (c) NavCom (c) Steve Forget DefCon Marshall Law Abie Ace Maverick Zed =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Four tag teams collide in this high-octane mixture. Straight off the bat, I'm picking the Patriots to come out on top in this one. Let me explain why. Battle Zone are simply too eclectic a mixture, and that's largely down to the unorthodox and unpredictable Alphabet Boys. While the Armed Forces are a fantastic team who exhibit both the highs and lows of excellent tag wrestling, I'm not sure how they're going to handle being partners with Abie and Zed. I can see one of two scenarios developing: either they will attempt to control the ABoys throughout the match, hoping that the unpredictable pair will understand the object of the battle and work together with them; or they will ignore the ABoys and attempt to win the match on their own. Neither solution is ideal, since the first option means that the ABoys will end up taking a mile when offered an inch, and I wouldn't count on them understanding the object of the match at all. The second option could also be a mistake, since Abie and Zed both have very short fuses, and if they decide to get into the ring, I don't think anybody will be able to stop them. Aaron the Caddy has quite a balancing act to work out just stopping his own foursome from busting up. Let's hear from the Forces now: [SCENE: outside of Madison Square Garden, New York, New York. A black stretch limousine pulls up. The driver gets out and opens the back door. Out of the car come Aaron the Caddy, NavCom, and DefCon. Aaron leads the way to the front door, pointing at this shrine of sporting events. The Armed Forces are amazed, and suddenly are very pumped up.] NavCom: Can you believe it, baby? Just 6 months ago we was yelling at people to do their pushups faster, to climb the rope, and now, we're walkin' into Madison Square Garden to go for the IIWF World Heavyweight Title! DefCon: Yeah, it's all good. But, what would we do with that singles belt? We're a tag team. Nobody can pin us when we work together. I'm not thinking about that belt. I want the TAG STRAPS. Aaron: Good focus, guys. Keep your eyes on the tag team gold. That's what you want. DefCon: Yeah. Did you see the way we tricked those idiots yesterday? They takin' the golf club to Nav. Those pussies. They deserved to be DQ'd. We gonna rip them in two at Madness... NavCom: That's right! Ace, you punk. I'm gonna get you back for that cheap shot! We've beaten every team that's been stupid enough to get in the ring with us so far, and we get 2 of our greatest victims in just ONE day!!! Can you feel it.... Aaron: Tomorrow night, you guys have the privilege of beating on not one, but count them, 2 teams you hate! Let's tell 'em what's up... [Head of MSG security arrives. He looks at the trio, puzzled.] Guard: HEY! What are you three doin' here? [Suddenly, the man realises who it is.] Guard: Aaron, my man! What's goin' on, G? Aaron: I'm just showin' my men around. Guard: Well, hey man, I'll give you the full tour...come on. Aaron: Nav, Def, this is my friend James McCauley. He is the head of security here at the Garden. James, this is my team, the Armed Forces, NavCom and DefCon. These two will be teaming with the Alphabet Boys tomorrow night against "The Patriots". Guard: Alright, guys. Good luck. [NavCom and DefCon shake hands with the guard. Then, the four men all head down a tunnel, and to an elevator. The elevator goes to the top, and they get out and head to seating. They have a seat, and watch as people set up the IIWF ring for the upcoming action.] NavCom: Wow. DefCon: Look at that ring! It's awesome! NavCom: Isn't that a cool logo? Just think, we'll be slamming people right on top of that logo, and covering them for pinfalls!!! DefCon: I wanna powerbomb that Ron Fire punk again. Or was it Steve? Oh, I FORGET. Aaron: Ha ha. Guard: Look at these guys, Aaron. They're monsters. They gonna go to town, baby. DefCon: Ron!!! You're one half of Blunt Team USA. You suck. You wanna talk your trash, well, Ronnie, you can bet on one thing. We're gonna open FIRE on you tomorrow night, punk!!! NavCom: That's right. Steve, ah, oh, I guess I have FORGOTTEN what I wanted to say to you. DefCon: He he. Probably wanted to remind them that we kicked them all over the ring a couple of weeks ago. NavCom: Yeah, that was it. Maverick. It'll be Mav vs. Nav this weekend at the Madness. Well, Maverick, you wanna hit me with a golf club, THAT'S IT YOU PUNK!!! I just might have an ACE up my sleeve this time, you little puke!!! You wanna use weapons, we're the baddest and the best. Years of training, learning to disarm men...well, if you come at me with ANYTHING tomorrow night, I'll take it from you. And, then, you'll have to explain to your partners why my foot got broken off in your *beep*!!! DefCon: Law...you're the worst. Not only do you lack wrestling skill, you're the least disciplined man I've ever met. We'll teach you some discipline in this big 8-man...us and the BOYS!!! You better look out, because tomorrow night, punk, you're gonna get court MARSHALLED!!! Stop the camera. Aaron: WAIT!!! I've got somethin' to say. ACE MAVERICK. You moron. You hit me with a club. I guess you don't know who you're dealing with here. Sure, I'm not gonna take care of you personally, but, I'll have you taken care of. First, we'll take care of Junk Team, Ronnie and Stevie. Then, we'll beat the hell out of your partner, and once he's eliminated, it'll be 4 ON 1!!! Guess who the one is??? That's right!! You!! NavCom and DefCon, and Abie and Zed will just keep tagging and double teaming until you can't walk!!! We don't want to pin you, we want to hurt you!! The only way you'll get out of the agony is to just quit. You've always seemed like the quitting type. Prove me right...again. NavCom: We've got ONE goal in this. We're gonna get through this first match. DefCon and I will survive, and then we're in the big match. And you wanna know something, all you superstars out there, Psycho, Kauffman, Tiger Claw, Matsuoko, Outlaw, HPD, yadda, yadda, yadda. We don't care about winning the title. Once we get to the big survivor series match, we won't try to win the belt. WE'RE GONNA TRY TO HURT SOMEBODY. BAD. DefCon: All of you pretty boys out there better be watchin' your backs, because we are gonna be after one thing come the final match....YOUR HEAD. Brigade dismissed. [Fade] Aaron the Caddy is another factor that the Patriots will have to watch out for -- so far here in the IIWF, he's proved that he's not only a wily tactician, but also that he's not afraid to use those golf clubs of his as weapons to assist his team. No doubt the Patriots will be aware of the danger, both of its constituent teams having faced the Armed Forces in recent weeks, and the clubs have been a factor in both battles. Let's take a look at the Patriots: on one hand, we have the newcomers, Law & Disorder, who have impressed in the few weeks they have been in the IIWF, but have yet to string together a significant run of victories. They are clearly a closely bonded unit, and in a way that might not be to their advantage, as they might not be used to working with another pairing, especially one which they see as an obstacle between themselves and the IIWF World Tag Team Championships. For Stunt Team USA are certainly strong contenders for those prestigious titles. They're coming off the back of a fine performance in the recent tag team tournament, and it won't be long before they get their well-deserved shot at the current title-holders, the High Plains Drifters. I don't think, however, that Ron and Steve will have any problems working with Ace Maverick and Marshall Law, although they have expressed their disappointment with the amount of rulebreaking that goes on in the IIWF. But what more appropriate team could they team with than Law & Disorder? Let's get Ron and Steve's comments now: [SCENE: Ron and Steve are standing on top of a bridge above a river, looking down] Ron: Somewhere there in the depths of the water lies our future. I don't know what it looks like, but when Midsummer Madness is over, we'll know more about it. Steve: At Midsummer Madness we are goin' to face the Armed Forces once again. Ron: Don't forget about the ABoys! Steve: Right, the A-Boys... Now I guess in all the other teams it has been pointed out already who should take out whom. In our case... hey, it almost looks as if there are only opponents out there... Ron: The Armed Forces... They cheated us once, they'll not cheat us again, right? Caddy-Buddy, take your golf club and eat it! I hope the Prez is goin' to observe our match closely, after all there's way too much cheating in the IIWF already... Steve: Then we've got the Alphabet Boys. Now our both teams really know each other. And I guess they really have a score to settle with us. However, the more and more I think about that upcoming encounter I start to believe that the ABoys could be our only allies in that battle. Ron: And then there are our tag-team-partners, Law & Disorder. Now I don't know what to think about you, buddies... We're supposed to stick together before such a match, but you don't show up to our training sessions. Now that's okay with us if you're that fit. But, hey, don't look at us as if we're the opponents, we're not. Don't look past Midsummer Madness, concentrate on it. Right now we don't stand in your way. And like I said it before: We don't have to like each other to work well together! Steve: The odds might be against us, but we're goin' to stand in for all our fans out there and show the IIWF and the whole world just why we're the leading team in the rankings. Ron: Now let's put our fate into Destiny's hand and see what lies ahead. [With these words Ron jumps down the bridge, having a Bungee rope around his feet] Steve: And kids, don't try this at home! CUT! [Steve follows Ron all the way down. Fade] I would expect the Patriots to control this match, and I predict that at least Ron will survive. Perhaps Law & Disorder will also survive in part or in full. For the purposes of clarity, though, let's say that the Patriots' captain, Ron Fire, goes on to the big final Survivors Match. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= AMERICAN HEROES vs. DARK KNIGHTS Casey James (c) Sandman (c) Man Of Steel Phantom Don Antonio Brad "Bodybag" Kinder Vinny Cappicola Prince of Darkness =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= With the addition of the Prince of Darkness to the Dark Knights, the job of the American Heroes just got a whole lot harder. However, I'm still going to go with Casey's team, for a couple of simple reasons: Casey and Steel have worked together on a number of occasions in the past, and the Family are also a fairly accomplished partnership, as one might expect, whereas the Knights are a fairly new, although undeniably impressive, alliance; and secondly, because of fan support. Without a doubt, the American Heroes will have the fans right behind them in this one, and that's going to be a decisive factor, I'm sure. Casey and Steel, for example, are very much motivated by the fans, and the sound of forty thousand fans screaming "USA! USA!" is bound to boost their confidence. Looking at the Knights, however, there are several areas that the Heroes will have to keep their eyes peeled for. Firstly, the Sandman is a cunning individual who knows almost as many psychological ploys as he knows wrestling holds. Secondly, the Knights possess two great power wrestlers in the form of the former IC champ, Brad "Bodybag" Kinder, and the Prince of Darkness. Add the shadowy Phantom, and the Knights are a formidable team. Let's hear from them now: [SCENE: The atrium of the Dark Knights castle. A draw bridge cranks down and thuds as it hits the ground. Four figures walk out and stand firmly on the bridge. The camera takes a low medium range shot capturing the Knights and two gargoyles who seem to stand at attention at the sight of them. Torches burn bright in the night as they cast eerie shadows along the back walls of the castle.] Phantom: If anyone has wondered why I have been so quiet as of late, it's because of this: the Sandman and Bodybag have said it all. Besides, half these punks aren't worth my time. I'd rather focus on destroying the Family at Midsummer Madness. Speaking of which after the Dark Knights bury our competition I'll be happy to spit on their graves and grab my Charles DICKens. My commrades are more reserved in what they say. I've already told the world that I mean business and I'm not going to kiss anyone's ass to accomplish my goals. I can walk around all cock deasel cause I know how hard the Knights and I work. We're not here in the IIWF to take shorts, this is where the strong survive. We are the strong and we'll do more then survive -- we'll dominate!!! So, do you all understand what I'm saying and where I'm coming from? Let's put it like this, You mess with the bull you get the horns! At Midsummer Madness I'll live up to my name, silent and deadly, I'll strike before you even know I'm there, The Phantom! [Phantom quickly dissolves into the darkness behind the others.] Bodybag: There is a new rage that boils within me! I'm almost too pissed to talk so I'll make it short and sweet. With all my anger right now, I'm ready to explode! Family, Heroes, I'm going to take it out all on you! I'm going to grind you up and spit you out!!! Claw it's not over between us, I'll see you soon, you got a fight comin'............. PoD: A lot of people may be wondering why the POD has decided to become the newest Knight. BECAUSE I WANTED TO!!! That's all you need to know. It's time to get some respect here in this fed!! The Knights are gonna destroy everything in our paths towards IIWF gold!! Tiger Claw......you may have beaten Kinder for that title, but don't get too attached. The "Boogie Man's" a commin' for that belt. That goes for all the belts!!! Darkness is a good thing. Sandman: Feast your eyes on us, the Knights are HERE! Ha ha ha ha.......How twisted can things get? I told the world that the Knights were already established in the IIWF. One after another they were revealed. The Prince of Darkness completed the cipher and we're at full stength! Quite an impressive collection of talent, if I say so myself. Damn, how can it feel so good to be so bad?! This is no new developement, the Bible speaks of a ghostly figure who rides on a pale horse with hell following him. I am that figure and hell is here by my side, the Prince of Darkness, Brad Bodybag Kinder, and the Phantom. Don't even think we're an inexperienced team, never underestimate your enemies. We've had a lot of time off to work together. If we could engineer the PoD intro at the Midweek Mayhem, there shouldn't be any doubt at what we are capable of. Think of all the chaos we've already caused, I don't have to say a word just ask the Family. How much havoc are we going to reep at the Madness? I'll say this, we'll have the crowds yelling "redrum" as we plough our way to the top and the World Title! The dark clouds are now looming over the IIWF and a new champion is about to be crowned. Let's put two and two together...........DARK-CHAMPION..............and there you have it!!!!! [The Knights all turn and a go back in as the drawbridge closes. Fade] Strong words, but I feel that the desire of the Heroes might be just that little bit stronger than the Knights'. Casey wants nothing more than to have the World title around his waist to prove beyond all doubt that the American Dream is still strong. While Kinder is also hungry for gold, he's got to be demoralised after his defeat at the hands of Tiger Claw on Wednesday night which took away the IC title he was so proud of. Phantom is very much the dark horse in the match, and could surprise us all. Overall, though, I believe the desire of the American Heroes will carry them through. Let's get their comments now, as they are interviewed by Larry Morton: [SCENE: A locker room of a gym... Casey. MOS, and the Family are standing with Larry Morton.] LM: Hi, folks... I'm here with one of the most inspirational teams to participate in Midsummer Madness. I'm here with the American Heroes! Casey, as the captain of the team, what do you have to say? CJ: Well, Larry... I just want to say that we're ready. In fact, I'm positive that you're looking at one of the new IIWF champions right here. We've been training. We're at our best right now, and furthermore, we have the fans behind us... How can we lose? MOS: Like Casey says, How can the American Heroes lose? We have some of the greatest wrestlers in the IIWF today on our team. The Man of Steel is ready. When the fans are on their feet applauding the new World Champion it will be one of us! DA: Larry, the last few weeks have been quite a learning experience for the Family. We have been undergoing such a rapid educational process that I feel absolutely confident in backing Casey's claim that one of these four men standing before you will be standing victorious at the end of Saturday night CJ: That's right. With the people behind us, not to mention the whole U.S of A, we're assured victory. We can settle for nothing but the highest calibre of talent. There's been a lot of rumors about my standpoint of late. I may have let my temper get the best of me, but let me assure you that the first and foremost thing on my mind is making the IIWF a better place to compete. We're going to try and bring that thought to a reality. Man Of Steel, Don Antonio, Vinny, and I will make the country proud... Men, let us salute the flag that inspires us. [The team turns to an American flag and shows their respect.] MOS: That is what all of us here stand for. The Stars and Stripes of our beloved country. When you insult the USA you insult the American Heroes. Fisto Flash and Robski found out the hard way what that meant. Dark Knights, it would seem that you are going to be next. And as for you Brad Kinder, you have yet to answer my challenge. Would it be that you can't stand to lose your title to the Man of Steel? Well let's make this statement right now. Kinder, I'm gunning for you! [Don Antonio turns to Casey for a moment, and looks to be moved emotionally.] DA: Casey, I apologize for questioning your intentions earlier. There is one thing that I hold utmost to all in life and that is respect. I feel that by questioning you I showed a lack of faith in you but I can understand your frustration and want you and all the world to know that we are all in this together. Through thick and thin the American Heroes will be together with the Family in our quest to the belt. VC: Oh man guys, I can feel sometin now dat I neva felt before. I feel an incredible amount of pride. I'm just proud to be standin' here in front of the flag of our great land with the three wrestlers that I admire most in the world. There ain't nobody better and tamorra, everybody's gonna know dat. CJ: We're inspired by the flag, but for some of us, there's other reasons to beat the Dark Knights... [Don regains his composure, and then turns to the camera.] DA: Sandman, dont think that I'm going to forget what you did to Sal! That man inspired me to become what I am today and to see him in the hospital wounded and bandaged gives me an extra inspiration. Gentlemen, at Midsummer Madness you will see a side of the Family that you never knew existed. You think that you have seen us when we're bad and you think you've seen us when we're good but you have never seen the Family when we're PISSED! [Casey looks shocked for a moment, then looks at the camera.] CJ: Dark Knights, you're in for a night you'll never forget! LM: Boy oh boy! I really hope these guys bring their special type of justice to the ring and are victorious! There's nothing I'd like to see more than one of these men wearing the IIWF world championship belt by the end of Midsummer Madness... Well, we're just about out of time, so back to you, Tim! [Fade] So, I'm picking Casey James to survive as the title hopeful from this match to go on to the final battle. Don't expect him to progress without a real battle, though. The Knights will pull out all the stops to put a halt to the Heroes.... although they may have made a very grave mistake in upsetting the Family. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= THE SENATE vs. THE POSSE The Hangman (c) The Outlaw (c) Mr. Damage The Crippler Atomic Destroyers High Plains Drifters =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= If any of the matches tomorrow night qualifies as a war, this must be it. The Posse and the Senate have been at each others' throats for as long as the IIWF has been around. I must confess that I'll be surprised if any member of either of these teams, regardless of the overall outcome, is even fit to enter the final match. I think the Posse will edge out the Senate in this one, folks. With the former IIWF World Champion, the Outlaw, to date the most impressive champion here in the IIWF, and the current IIWF Tag Team Champions, the High Plains Drifters, on side, along with the tough Crippler, the credentials of this team speak for itself. Although the wiles of the Senator can never be overestimated, you've got to believe that Josey Wales will have prepared his men for all but the most incredible eventualities. Let's pit the two teams against each other, hypothetically speaking. The Hangman has met the Outlaw in the ring, and the Outlaw was successful in meting out revenge on the Senator's star pupil for the incapacitation of two former Posse members, Altair and the Venusian Death Cell. Both men are large, and they are similar in style. However, the Outlaw remains one of the hardest men to beat in the IIWF, and if they went up against one another, I'd have to go with the Outlaw. Mr. Damage and the Crippler are both similar athletes, too. Both focus their attack on weakening particular body areas, and although the Crippler has more in-ring experience against the IIWF superstars, he has come up short on more than one occasion. Maybe tomorrow night we'll see Mr. Damage come of age here in the IIWF and put the Crippler out of action. However, even if Damage eliminates the Crippler, things would be decided by the High Plains Drifters coming out on top against the Atomic Destroyers. I can hardly count the number of times these two teams have faced each other in the past, but right at the moment, the Drifters have the edge -- not to mention the gold. Of course, there's every chance that the Senator has some scheme up his sleeve which will throw current form right out of the window, but if things go straight down the middle, I suspect the Posse will come out on top, with the Outlaw, and the speedy light-heavyweight, Pale Rider, surviving. What a war it's going to be... let's get the Posse's comments now: [Fade in on a campfire at dusk. Five figures sit huddled around the fire chatting and, as the camera swings around to show their faces illuminated by the flames, it is evident that the members of the Posse are preparing for Midsummer Madness. Josey Wales draws a puff from his cigar and tosses the butt into the fire.] JW: Some men prepare their entire lives for an event like Midsummer Madness. The Posse is always prepared. This Saturday, the Outlaw, the Crippler, and my High Plains Drifters will show the wrestling world why they are the only force to be feared in the IIWF. Too many people have been talking trash of late and not backing it up. Well we've got gold in our stable and there will be more after Saturday night. I don't think I need to tell anyone what happened the last time the IIWF had a tournament for the World Title. You all know the Masked Outlaw and what he's capable of. MO: Coronation Clash. It was and is the standard by which champions are measured. Remember who walked out of the IIWF Coliseum with that gold belt? Well Saturday Night at Madison Square Garden I'm planning to show that history repeats itself. "Champion" is not just a title . . . it's a way of life. The Subway Psycho proved himself unworthy of the IIWF World Championship belt, just like any other pretender to the throne. I never got a shot at winning the title back, so I'm going into Midsummer Madness to _take_ it back. And if it sounds like we're looking past the Senate, you'd be right. Those hombres will be . . . [he looks to his left and grins] CRIPPLED . . . Saturday night. [The Crippler nods his head at the Outlaw] TC: There is a lot of unfinished business between the Posse and the Senate, but we plan on finishing it for good at Midsummer Madness. Few men know the true pleasure of hearing a bone snap or a skull fracturing as it hits a concrete floor, but I've never heard a better sound. Senator . . . get your men ready for pain and punishment. And if you stick your nose in this match . . . prepare to be CRIPPLED! JW: The Atomic Destroyers proved in the tag tournament that they could not defeat the High Plains Drifters. Pale and Easy came away with the victory and the IIWF belts, but Saturday they are going after much more than the gold. Destroyers . . . my men are coming after your careers! Tell 'em boys! [Pale Rider and Easy Rider exchange hi-fives.] PR: The Outlaw has told us how unforgiving the desert can be for those who aren't prepared. Well Senate, you're about to wander into our desert . . . and you're not even close to being prepared for what's awaiting. The Outlaw and the Crippler will take care of Hangnail and Mrs. Damage, so that leaves the Atomic Morons for me and Easy. Don't expect a technical match, boys. This is war! ER: And what will the rest of the IIWF do when all four of us advance to the final match? How are you gonna keep the gold from coming to the Posse? One thing is for sure, there may be two sides in that final match, but there will be no friends except for the Posse. Everyone in that match will be trying to explain the hoof marks in their beaten faces. Well, just tell them that the Posse was there! [A coyote howls in the distance as all five men burst into evil laughter. Fade to black.] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= THE PERFORMERS vs. THE SHOWSTOPPERS Billy Shakespeare (c) Simon Lebec (c) The Punster Fisto Flash Tony Starks "Painbringer" Billy Sexton "Machine" Hunter Robertson "Frost" Scott Morrison =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= For sheer flair and technical skill, these two teams can't be topped. The stand-out competitors in each team to my mind are Billy Shakespeare and Tony Starks for the Performers, and Billy Sexton and Fisto Flash for the Showstoppers. These four men represent the diversity of competition here in the IIWF, and wrap up the spirit of this match. Billy Shakespeare is a robust, athletic, aerially-skilled cruiserweight. He possesses all manner of technical abilities, and he can finish an opponent off at practically any stage in a match. He is also endowed with an almost endless reserve of resilience, and he can bounce back from practically anything. He has faced the huge and dangerous Fisto Flash in the past, and narrowly come out on top, which is an impressive achievement. The iron destroyer is possibly the IIWF's most powerful man. His huge size is supported by a great deal of strength, and he's got to be the Showstoppers' secret weapon in this match - one well-placed blow from that steel fist of his, padded or not, will take out just about any wrestler here in the IIWF. Let's get his comments: [SCENE: the training room in the Stone Mansion.) Robo Stone: [pointing to a space in the wall] THIS is where we will put the IIWF world championship belt!!! NO man has the guts or glory to take you out of THE most prestigious elimination tournament of ALL time!!! MARK my words!!! YOU WILL SURVIVE!!!!! Fisto Flash: It ALL comes down to this. Many men vying for a chance at the IIWF gold. All a' these men are great athletes; but NOT great fighters. The Iron Destroyer is the GREATEST fighter in the HISTORY of wrestling. And I'm gonna prove it!!! NO JOBBIN'!!! NO LOSIN'!!! I'm gonna come outta Midsummer Madness with.......GGGOOOLLLDDD!!!!!!!!! [Fisto Flash poses. Fade] Sexton and Starks are possibly the two most technically gifted wrestlers in the IIWF. Sexton combines a pure submission style with his rulebreaking acts, while Starks combines a similar submission technique with some stiff power moves. These two wrestlers complement each other in a unique way, and if they get into the ring together, expect sparks to fly. Let's hear from Sexton now: "OH YEAH! The time has come to meet the man, baby the time has come for so much fun. Everyone here take a good look at the next IIWF Heavyweight Champion. After me and the boys take care of the Performers. Nothing is going to stand in my way... Tomorrow night baby a new champion shall be declaired, and baby it's going to be me. OH YEAH!" However, question marks still surround Starks and the shady man who has been perpetually in his wake for the past few weeks. Sexton and Lebec appear to be involved in some way, too, and this will undoubtedly have some effect on the match. With "the Machine" Hunter Robertson, the Punster, and "Frost" Scott Morrison, you have another trio who know each others' styles. Robertson and Morrison in particular have a heated rivalry going on, and I would expect them to clash somewhere in the course of this match. However, in the end I believe the submission wrestling of Sexton and the sheer power of Fisto Flash will prove decisive in this match. I predict that after one of the most competitive battles of the night, Flash will surprise us all and progress to the final match. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= THE SYNDICATE vs. ALLIANCE OF EXCELLENCE Tiger Claw (c) Dan Kauffman (c) Joe Latta Subway Psycho Hakiro Matsuoko Deathbringer ? "Legend" Brandon Bennett =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= This is, of course, the match which most observers are talking about. So many different names have been put forward as possible fourth member of the Syndicate that the Alliance of Excellence have got to have their mind as much on what they don't know about their opponents as what they _do_ know. Current speculation includes the theory that Brian Lau himself will be the fourth member, although given the injuries he sustained on Wednesday night facing the Coroner, I find that doubtful -- besides, is Lau really in any shape to face Deathbringer or the Subway Psycho? Another possibility is the big loose cannon, Blackjack Haley. Although he has denied any involvement with Lau in the past, it is entirely possible that the denial was simply part of a smokescreen. Other names touted have included a return for Flare, although he hasn't been seen for over a month in any capacity. The biggest rumour, and the one to which I subscribe, is that Lau doesn't _have_ a fourth member for his team. If this really is the case, then the Syndicate could be in for a rough ride tomorrow night. Brian Lau remains confident, of course: [SCENE: The members of the Syndicate stand in front of the trophy case in the Dojo. Displayed right in the centre is a plaque. On the plaque is engraved "IIWF Intercontinental Chapionship." Underneath is several smaller plates with the different holders of the title. Tiger Claw's name is the only name to appear twice. Tiger Claw stands proudly in the group, wearing the IC title around his waist.] KT: Hello, folks. This is Kenny Tanaka coming to you from the Dojo where the Syndicate is just coming off of their victory Wednesday night. Brian, please give us your comments... BL: I told you that this belt would be back in our posession. Once again, we have the plaque in our trophy case. Come... Look closely... These small plates here chronicle the IC title holders in the IIWF. As you can see, three out of four times, this belt was held by a Syndicate member. Think about it. Brad Kinder had a short reign, but we made sure that we regained the title. We own this belt. The only reason we're going to let anyone have it is if WE say so. This is truly a victory for the Dojo. KT: What about your match against the Coroner? BL: Yes... It was obvious that I had the upper hand in that match, and then one of Coroner's cronies had to run in and attack me... Then Coroner chose to use those brass knuckles... We all see who the real victor in that match was. I used perfectly scientific holds through the entire thing, then the Coroner insults myself and the rest of the IIWF by using a foreign object... I should have known that he would rely on this at some time in the match... But justice has a strange way of being served. Coroner, I am glad that Deathbringer is going to take care of you. I may not like the man, but I know how tough an opponent he is. I hope he cleans your clock. This way, we need not soil our hands with you. KT: Now in a few short hours, we'll be at the great Midsummer Madness Pay-Per-View. We saw on Wednesday that the Syndicate/Alliance of Excellence match will be a real brawl. What can we expect? HM: I'll tell you what to expect. Expect the Alliance of Excellence to prepare for an all out brawl. We will keep our wits about us and show how we deal with the irrational style of the typical westerner. Notice I say "typical." Joe here is the exception. You westerners are capable of control, but many of you are too closed minded. The Alliance will run in with fists flying, and we'll use their own momentum to break them. It's the easiest thing in the world to deal with. We cannot be overwhelmed. We will walk out victorious. JL: So I see that Dan is a little miffed... Good. Bring that anger to the ring, Dan. I will turn it against you. Brandon, Dan... You two seem to be more involved with the location of your favourite CDs than what goes on in the ring... Keep it up, and we'll take care of the both of you... Psycho... Well, what can I say? You're a hot head and an idiot. We'll take care of you twice. And Deathbringer? You may be hard to pin, but there's other ways to lose a match. Let's just say that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the individual. Any one of us is ready to be declared eliminated as long as we take one of you with us. I may keep you out of the ring so we both get counted out. I may bring a baseball bat and crack your skull... Sure, I may get disqualified, but at least you'll be in no shape to compete. You have no idea what we have planned. We are a well oiled machine. KT: Now, Brian, I know you've mentioned the faults of looking too far ahead to the final match, but what IF your men are the last people in the ring at the end? BL: Then the best man will be crowned champion. The men left at the end will fight each other, you can be assured of that. These guys fight each other anyway. In training, they spar against each other... What better way to learn a maneuver than when it gets executed on you? Joe learned the advantages of the Knee Fury when Tiger Claw did it to him. Tiger Claw learned the advantage of the tilt-a-whirl powerbomb when Joe executed it on him... Let's say that Hakiro and Tiger Claw are the last two... I guarantee you'd see the most intense match the IIWF has ever seen. And after all is said and done, we'll all remain friends. It's all part of the warrior's training. I'm hoping the whole Syndicate gets into the finals, and ends up being the last four men in the ring... What a battle you'd see... KT: I noticed you said four men.... BL: No, Kenny... I'm not telling who my fourth man is. [The phone rings in the background] BL: [To Sasha] Darling, could you answer that? It's probably the... Well, you know. Sasha: Of course, Brian... BL: Speak of the devil... That call probably has something to do with the fourth man... KT: Well, Brian, I can hardly wait... When we talk next it'll be at Midsummer Madness! But that's all the time we have. Folks, This is Kenny Tanaka for the Syndicate saying so long, everybody! [Fade] I'm going to be controversial here and predict victory for the Syndicate, even if they only have three members. I believe that the ongoing situation between Lau's men and the Psycho and Deathbringer, as well as Kauffman's unsettled scores with former friend Joe Latta, and the element of the unknown that surrounds the mystery fourth member, are all going to be decisive factors in this encounter, and I think emotions in the Alliance will be running high. Lau's men have been trained to stay calm and pounce on the mistakes of their opponents. The Alliance of Excellence seem calm now, but they could well explode apart tomorrow night. Let's hear from them: [In the early morning twilight, a scene of a densely-wooded forest greets the camera with a green and black glare. Shadows are abundant, and the animals of the forest are just now starting to chirp and move around. There is a hill that peaks about 100 yards from the camera, and over this hill, the figures of two men show, walking towards the camera. The camera can not clearly make them out, but it can pick up these words...] "The plotting, the planning, the schemes and scams, all of the negatives of wrestling are non-existent way out here. This is a place where men can get away from the rigors of life, where one can ponder about what has happened, what is happening, and what is about to happen. It is a place where life exists much like it did thousands of years ago; without stress, hassle or worry. And yet, it is a dreary place, the kind that possesses its own kind of magic, so to speak. But we do not come to these woods to be philosopical. No, we come to these woods as a retrieve, as a way of thinking about what we have, and are about to face." [As the men draw near, the camera can pick out the individual faces of Dan Kauffman and Brandon Bennett. Strangely, it was Brandon that was doing the speaking, and Dan simply stands there, a mixture of emotions.] BB: There are two sides to every story. On one side, we have Brian Lau, the mastermind. Brian Lau, whose purpose is simply to claim as much gold and glory as he can. But is that gold and glory for his wrestlers, as it should be? Or is it so that Lau himself can stand in the spotlight. The former option I could respect. The latter one I can not... and will not. DK: Brian Lau, now you lead your men into the frying pan that is the wrestling ring. You lead Tiger Claw, the mighty warrior from Thailand that you have taken to the next level. I'll give you that, you have taken him to the next level, I cannot deny that fact. You have my former friend Joe Latta, a rising star under, much as I hate to say it, your guidance. And Latta has thrived under your control. But just how much control do you have? How much control are they willing to allow you to have? For it is apparent that, though they fight for their own glory, they fight for yours as well. BB: And then there is Hakiro Matsuoko. The "Angel of the Sun". Yet Hakiro is no angel. A gifted athlete, sure. But no angel. Hakiro, you have sold your career for one man, this Brian Lau. Are you truly prepared to go wherever he takes you? I don't believe you are. True, I'm sure you respect the man after the match you had against Tiger Claw. But are you really at peace under Lau's guidance? DK: Then there's Sasha. Oh yes, the one and only Sasha. The Sasha that has apparently turned against the Subway Psycho. But what for? What could Lau have shown to Sasha that would make her turn against the Subway Psycho? I don't think there is anything... I think it has to do with Sasha herself, something that Lau knows. BB: Sasha, it has become blatently obvious to me that Brian Lau knows something about you that you do not want known. And that is why Lau is able to use you like he has been. Sasha, if that is the case, there is nothing Brian Lau can do to harm your character. Brian Lau is a schemer, and if you can't see past his face, then you are truly doomed. DK: But now we head to Midsummer Madness. And all the talk, all the speculation about the fourth man, all the hype will end. And Lau, Claw, Latta, Matsuoko, and whoever else Lau has "forced" in, you have to fight against four men that don't say die, and never will. We know what Brian Lau is up to, and I know the men that will stop him. In fact, I can show you them... [In seconds, the forest becomes pitch black, and the shadowy figures of both Deathbringer and the Subway Psycho are seen through the darkness. Psycho is eerily silent, as if in preparation. Deathbringer talks in a slow, deep voice:] DB: The night of Midsummer Madness comes closer and closer with every hour that goes by. Soon destiny will fulfill itself. Brian Lau... Tiger Claw... Hakiro Matsuoko... Joe Latta... Why do you dare the hand of fate? The claw of Death waits to grab a golden medal, your honor idolized. You are up for a challenge you cannot survive. I am here together with my brother in darkness. Together we stand, together we fight and together we will succeed for we cannot die. But the same is not true for you, Syndicate... Lau, when I saw you last Wednesday I had the opportunity to look into your heart. It is cold, cold as ice. Your black heart will only find beauty in the darkness and that is just where you and your Syndicate will end up after Midsummer Madness. Why do you lead them to this trap? Look up into the sky, it turns black. The blackness that falls is coming to stay and it will engulf you. You want to run, but where to? [he throws a handful of dust into the air in which the image of vast plains appear for a second and vanish again] See the plains lie ghastly silent as if being frozen in time. A place of distress where evil still lies vigilant enshrined. Years that passed are now centuries and forgotten seem the fallen ones. But I did not forget them, you did. Here in the wilderness is where the spirit lies. Come here and listen to the wind. Hear the choirs that brought back the fallen ones' cries, forged in blood and tragedy. Dark were the thorns of crimson death and they still are. Not even the Syndicate can prevail against eternity and nothing else you have to fight. Your soul is black and black as night are the ways of death as I wield the scythe of the reaper... ['Bringer raises his arms, suddenly thunder is heard while he speaks the next words] I am the keeper of ancient darkness... Syndicate... obey the Alliance..." DK: For surely, the Alliance will prove that Brian Lau cannot take us apart... he can't even come close. Four men will try for Lau. None will succeed. And Lau will be taught a lesson he shall never forget. BB: At Midsummer Madness, the story comes to an end, and the Alliance of Excellence will BE that ending. [All four men slowly fade into the air as if they had never been there, and when the figures are gone, the wilderness turns a bright blue and animals spring to life as the camera fades] We can remove the Psycho from the equation, since he has an automatic berth in the final match. Nonetheless, I predict a surprisingly early exit for the people's champion, since I don't believe that he'll be able to control that temper of his sufficiently to avoid being knocked out early by one of Lau's men. Kauffman will be a tough nut to crack, especially given the new moves in his repertoire and his more agressive style as of late, but the impressive continuity of Lau's men could result in a screwjob elimination for Kauffman. Don't be surprised, for example, if Lau instructs Latta to sacrifice himself to eliminate Kauffman by double countout. "Legend" Brandon Bennett would ordinarily be the most level-headed individual on any team, but in this case his detachment is surpassed by the cold Deathbringer. Although I can see Bennett taken out by Hakiro Matsuoko's high-impact offence, Deathbringer is probably the hardest man in the IIWF to pin. I would imagine that he could take out both Latta and Matsuoko before the end of the match, but I suspect that the new Intercontinental Champion, Tiger Claw, will have something in store for the dead man, just as he will have for the Psycho. In addition, there is uncertainty surrounding the allegiance of the Coroner to the Deathbringer right now. Let's hear from the Coroner, who might be able to clear this issue up: [SCENE: Outside the mortuary. The Coroner tries to open the door, but it seems to be locked] TC: Locked... Shall this be the end? The end of our alliance? Deathbringer, if you watch this, I beg you, listen closely! What happened on this Wednesday... it wasn't my fault. [The Coroner gets a very desperate look on his face] Since they started to call me over and over again they made me think about the past, the way you were and the way you're now. When I started to be your manager you were quite like me during my career. You were the menace, the curse of the wrestling world. But now after we came here to the IIWF things have changed. They changed a way I couldn't seem to adapt to [he sits down on the steps in front of the mortuary]. I didn't believe me eyes when you didn't execute the Burial on Latta a few months ago. Then, when Brian Lau and his Syndicate stepped into our way I couldn't believe the merciful way you handled them. Steve Roberts once said you must have become soft, and I started to think so, too. And then those calls... I wanted to take the things into my own hands. If it hadn't been for you, I certainly would have made a grave mistake on Wednesday. I was about to kill Lau. I thank you for stopping me. [he looks up into the air and takes a few deep breaths] Now there's something I want to ask you, no, beg you for: Don't drop me. Don't forget our last years. We worked well together as a team, and we can work well together again. I think I can adapt to the way you're now. [he drops to his knees] Look at me, I'm desperate. Please, forgive me! And... I obey thee! [Fade] What will become of the Deathbringer's alliance with the Coroner? Deathbringer was strangely silent on the matter in his earlier comments. Nontheless, I predict that either Deathbringer or Tiger Claw will be the sole survivor in this match. Although the Coroner's comments suggest that he is still behind 'Bringer, he poses some questions to himself that make me think a split is in the works. I would imagine that Lau's star man, the two-time IC champion, is going to come out on top. Which brings us to the big finale. Let's just remind ourselves of the participants I've picked to be in the final Survivors Match. Don't forget that the Psycho progresses regardless of his earlier performance, since it was from him that the World Title was stripped some weeks ago. Here are the sides as I imagine them: =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= SURVIVORS MATCH: Crimson Storm vs. The Outlaw Brassow Pale Rider Ron Fire Tiger Claw Casey James Fisto Flash Subway Psycho =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= After all the action earlier on in the evening, this final match is an incredible bonus. It's hard to predict the course of this encounter, although obviously the exhaustion of the athletes from their earlier matches is going to be a big factor. I would imagine that the surviving top contenders will eliminate the lower ranked wrestlers fairly quickly, barring any surprises, leaving Casey James and the Subway Psycho to face the Outlaw, Tiger Claw and Fisto Flash. Any number of possible outcomes could emerge from this scenario: we could see Tiger Claw become the IIWF's first double champion; Fisto could overcome all of his adversaries and capture the gold; Casey James could finally reach his full potential; we could see a rematch of the big title match at Ring Wars as the Psycho goes up against the Outlaw in the final stages. This is all pure speculation, of course, since chances are my predictions for the survivors could be very different to the actual course of events when the wrestlers hit the ring. Don't forget that just about anything can happen in the Garden tomorrow night! All in all, it promises to be one of the most exciting nights of wrestling entertainment in history! If you haven't already ordered this fantastic event from your local cable operator, get on the phone now and make sure you don't miss a moment's action! [Dross stands and heads up one of the aisles in the ringside seating towards the nearest exit.] Well, folks, that just about wraps it up for this special update. The crews will continue working here in the Garden overnight to get everything prepared for what promises to be the greatest pay-per-view event in history. This time tomorrow, we'll be well on the way to discovering what destiny is going to unfold for the man who will become the IIWF World Heavyweight Champion by the end of the evening. I'll be at ringside, along with my broadcast colleagues, "Soundbite" Steve Roberts, and Becky LaRue, to bring you all the action. It all happens live tomorrow night here in the world's most famous arena, the home of professional wrestling. Don't miss it!
