The lights rise and the shot zooms in on Tim.] Hello again, fans! I'm your host Tim Dross and welcome to "Inside the IIWF," a 30-minute look into the news, notes, and rumors in the world's most exciting e-wrestling federation. Tonight I'll have news on the new IIWF United States Tag Team Championship, an update on Tiger Claw's injury, some thoughts on the incredible happenings in the tag team ranks, and of course what I think about the battles raging in the singles ranks. And I'll have a special visit with former IIWF World Tag Team Champions the Armed Forces in our "Up Close and Personal" segment. But first, a personal and tragic note. All of us in the IIWF were shocked and saddened yesterday at the passing of one of our beloved colleagues here at the IIWF, Bulldog Bob Brown. You may have heard the news reports late last night about Bulldog's fatal heart attack, and I'm sure it shocked the fans as much as it shocked us in the IIWF Towers. You've all come to know Bulldog during the past few months through his work with the IIWF reports. While he may not have been the most gifted of interviewers, Bulldog approached his new assignment with the same passion which fueled his wrestling career. If enthusiasm were all it took to be a good broadcaster, Bulldog would have a shelf full of Emmy Awards. In short, Bulldog Brown was a gruff individual with a heart of gold. He cared not only about the fans, but also those with whom he wrestled. Bulldog Bob Brown was 58 years old. He will be missed. [There is silence as the shot cuts to a black screen with the white lettering: Bulldog Bob Brown 1938-1997. After a few moments, the shot returns to Tim Dross at the broadcast desk.] I'm certain that Bulldog would have wanted us to continue with business as usual, especially since things are heating up so quickly as we approach Ring Wars III on March 22. One of the big matches at that stellar PPV will crown the new IIWF United States Tag Team Champions, but it won't be an easy road. Sixteen teams are vying for the new belts in a single elimination tournament which begins tomorrow night at the IIWF Coliseum. The President's office has asked us to release the brackets for this single-elimination tournament tonight, and we're all to happy to do so. Get your pads and pencils ready fans, because these are the matches you can look forward to seeing in the weeks leading up to Ring Wars III: =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= IIWF United States Tag Team Championship Tournament Bracketing =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Round 1 Round 2 Semi-finals Final [COLD SPELL ]-. | 12/2 |--[ ]-. | | [ W & W EXP.]-' | | 8/3 |--[ ]--. | | [ RSR ]-. | | | | | 26/2 |--[ ]-' | | | [ HANGMEN ]-' | | 15/3 |--[ ]-. | | [ N/PATROL ]-. | | | | | 12/2 |--[ ]-. | | | | | | [ A/KNIGHTS ]-' | | | | | | 1/3 |--[ ]--' | | | [ A/BOYS ]-. | | | | | 22/2 |--[ ]-' | | | [ PAIN INC. ]-' | .-------. | Champ | `-------' [ TPC ]-. | | | 26/2 |--[ ]-. | | | | [ ZODIACS ]-' | | | | 8/3 |--[ ]--. | | | | [ A/FORCES ]-. | | | | | | | 15/2 |--[ ]-' | | | | | [ PROPHETS ]-' | | | | 15/3 |--[ ]-' | [ G.W.R. ]-. | | | 22/2 |--[ ]-. | | | | [ ? ]-' * | | | | 1/3 |--[ ]--' | [ HPD ]-. | | | 15/2 |--[ ]-' | [ HARLEQUIN ]-' One match which may jump out at you will come on February 22, when G.W.R. will meet a team to be named because of Domination's withdrawal from the tournament. We heard yesterday that Mistress and her charges choose not to pursue the U.S. Tag Championship, preferring to focus solely on the IIWF World Tag Team belts. I'll keep my ear to the ground in hopes of learning who this mystery team will be. ************************************************************************** ---------------------- TIM DROSS BREAKS IT DOWN ------------------------ ************************************************************************** QUICKSTRIKE FALLOUT... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Saturday night was to have been one of pride for "Quickstrike" Chris Quigley, but it quickly became apparent that two men would not let that be so. Joe Petrow, casting unfounded aspersions at the IIWF front office, not only refused to wrestle in the Quickstrike match, but also cheap- shotted Quigley before leaving the ring. Then, Casey James added insult to injury with some additional punishment. Both Petrow and James have been fined for their actions, but it seems money means little to "free spirits" like these. Realizing that, the IIWF is taking a new approach to punishing these thugs, I understand. Supposedly, Chris Quigley will have a shot against either James or Petrow -- or possibly both -- when he is ready. And I understand the booking committee is even going so far as to permit Quigley to choose the stipulations. If those rumors are true, you can bet that news won't please either James or Petrow. For now, Quigley seems content to focus on his Ring Wars III match against Dan Kauffman -- one match _everyone_ has been looking forward to. THE FINAL VOLLEY... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ In the "you heard it here first" department, a spokesperson for the Victims of the Holocaust Memorial Fund told me earlier today that Otto Verhoeven's donation arrived right on schedule Monday afternoon -- a check for $75,000. Now if you're doing the math along with me, fans, you know that "The Butcher" took home a cool $300,000 from his weekend match with the Subway Psycho -- $100,000 from each of the wrestlers and another $100,000 that was put up by the IIWF. I'm sure that check was only a first installment, isn't that right, Herr Verhoeven? Regardless of "The Butcher's" charitable leanings, I understand from the front office that last weekend's match will definitely end the Verhoeven- Psycho feud that has gone on for months. I caught a glimpse of a presidential memo to Verhoeven's agents stating that any further attacks on the homeless would result in not only a severe fine, but also a suspension and possibly expulsion from the IIWF. The Psycho has stated his intention to focus on the IIWF World Heavyweight Championship. While their timeless battles were certainly memorable, hopefully the Psycho and Verhoeven can now put the past behind them. RISING SUN RUMORS... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Fans, before you begin shredding those Rising Sun Revolution posters because of rumors started by Mistress and Domination last Saturday, let's examine the facts. You'll recall that Mistress accused Hiroshi and Ryudo of selling out to Mr. Mic and becoming allies of Pain Inc. Now I have known both members of Rising Sun Revolution since they set foot on American soil and I have to say that I find those allegations a bit hard to swallow. Hiroshi and Ryudo have always been fan favorites and it is Domination which has turned to... shall we say _underhanded_ tactics to win matches in the past month. We did see an alliance between Mr. Mic and Night Patrol last weekend, but Rising Sun Revolution was nowhere to be seen. Yes, Domination and Rising Sun Revolution had a falling out last weekend when this "Perfect" Dani Jarvier seemed to lose his cool, but until I hear from Ryudo -- I doubt I'd understand it from Hiroshi -- that RSR has aligned itself with Mr. Mic, well... I'm keeping _my_ Rising Sun Revolution poster! "TEAM BRUTALITY" ARRIVES... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As I just mentioned, Night Patrol seems to be the latest team to hook up with Mr. Mic and Pain Inc. Brenda Hawkings' goons made their presence felt during the match between the Zodiac Connection and Pain Inc., then Mr. Mic had the audacity to call the attack a product of "Team Brutality." Is it just me, or does Mr. Mic have a pretty bad track record with partnerships? Most recently, his attempt to ride the coattails of the Armed Forces could best be described as "laughable." Sure, this "Team Brutality" may be off to an impressive start, but I'll pass along a bit of advice to one Brenda Hawkings -- get your men away from Mr. Mic before it's too late. I'll expect the keys to _my_ Porsche any day now. MONEY TALKS... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There was a day when approaching the booking committee about a match was enough to fill a card. But with the number of open contracts floating around these days, it's difficult to tell who is ready to challenge whom. The latest to join the craze are the W & W Express, who put $50,000 on the line last weekend to any team which will challenge them. Granted, that's small potatoes compared to the cash available in last weekend's Verhoeven- Psycho match, but $50,000 is no small amount to working joes like you and me. I have to view this move by the W & W Express as something akin to a publicity stunt. The team lost its only match so far in the IIWF and is seeking some instant credibility. How to do that? Throw some impressive cash figures at the other tag teams. As a political type said last year, if you drag a dollar bill through a trailer park, you'll be surprised how many women you'll end up with. If you drag $50,000 through the IIWF, you'll get some attention as well. The offer drew no fewer than two responses yesterday, but there's no word on whether the cash will be on the line along with the W & W Express' shot at the IIWF U.S. Tag Team belts tomorrow night. Cold Spell will be the first-round opponents of the W & W Express. Perhaps it's time to put up or shut up. A CRACKED CLAW... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Don't expect Tiger Claw to be throwing any "cast" parties soon. And if he throws anything, it will probably be in the direction of one Casey "Blackheart" James. Claw's former mate in the Syndicate left a calling card Saturday night in the form of a broken leg for the Thai superstar -- and you can bet "Puppetmaster" Brian Lau was the one pulling Casey's strings. I spoke with Claw yesterday and he confirmed that he will be out of action for at least eight weeks. Barring a miraculous recovery, the IIWF will host it's first-ever pay-per-view event without Tiger Claw in the lineup. I find that hard to believe, but Claw is upbeat about the Subway Psycho's chances of walking away from Ring Wars III with the IIWF World Heavyweight Championship currently worn by Casey James. What payback that would be! CORRUPTION IN THE IIWF PRECINCT... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ For the third time tonight, I'm going to mention the name of Night Patrol, but don't think I'm doing it for pleasure. Six months ago, I was disgusted by a pair of men hiding behind the shelter and camouflage of the U.S. Armed Forces while getting away with some of their scandalous actions in the IIWF. Fast forward six months and we have two goons tarnishing the good name of police officers across the United States. Brenda Hawkings should be ashamed of letting her men come to the ring in uniforms worn by respectable civil servants. Of course, what would you expect from a woman who would throw favors around just to get in good with the IIWF's broadcasters. Yes, Becky LaRue is tooling around town in a new Porsche and singing the praises of Hawkings and Night Patrol. Yes, Steve Roberts is rejoicing that he won't be serving hard time for more than a dozen traffic and parking violations. But are Becky and Steve any better than Night Patrol themselves? I think not. And Ms. Hawkings -- about that Porsche crack earlier -- I was kidding. I'm very happy to drive a Volvo and be an example of how upstanding citizens should act. Save your tawdry gifts for those at your own level. SANDMAN "CHAIRS UP" THE CHALLENGERS... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Does the Sandman seem to have a new attitude these days? Having been dusted "up close and personal" last week, I can honestly say that the mysterious one seems to be especially motivated toward a shot at the IIWF Intercontinental title. That was evident last weekend when the Sandman interrupted the Steve Kowalski-Marty Warnett match, nailing Kowalski with a chair and then doing the same to the champion. Don't forget that Kowalski has never been a big fan of the Sandman's, believing that the only _real_ Sandman is his father -- Bruno the Sandman. The two never really resolved that issue, and I have a feeling that they'll meet again -- especially now that both men are chasing Marty Warnett's title belt. LIVING IN SYN-DICATE... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Rumors abound concerning Brian Lau's plans to replace Tiger Claw's spot in the Syndicate with another IIWF superstar. Steve Roberts gave his thoughts on the matter on the IIWF Hotline, but I have another thought on the topic. It's no secret that Lau leans heavily toward Oriental wrestlers and, unlike Mr. Mic, he has shown an ability to work with other managers. I've noticed a certain gleam in his eye whenever the name of one Shinja Chow comes up, especially since Chow returned from China with Sun Tsi and a new attitude. I'm sure Don McQueen wouldn't try to talk Lau out of adding the White Phoenix to the stable, especially since Chow wants to take something belonging to Takezo Musashi -- namely the IIWF Cruiserweight Championship. That's purely speculation on my part, but I hear that Lau has his eye on one or two wrestlers in particular. The way the gold seems to be gravitating toward the Syndicate, you have to wonder how many wrestlers would turn down Lau's offer. ARETHA SPELLS IT R-E-S-P-E-C-T... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And the fans of the IIWF are once again spelling it K-A-U-F-F-M-A-N. That's right, I think last weekend's cage match between Dan Kauffman and Billy Shakespeare went a long way toward restoring Dan Kauffman's credibility in the eyes of the fans. When "Flash" announced his retirement plans a few weeks ago, the news was met by some fans with a "who cares" attitude. After all, Kauffman and the Players' Club had seemingly turned their backs on the fans after their brutal attack on "Quickstrike" Chris Quigley. But Kauffman said that his prime directive was to win back the respect of the IIWF's great fans, and I believe he has made great strides toward achieving that goal during the past two weeks. Yes, he lost the IIWF World Heavyweight title to Casey James. And yes, he lost last weekend to Billy Shakespeare. But in both matches, he showed the grit, determination, and sportsmanship that form the cornerstone of this great sport. Does Dan Kauffman deserve your cheers during the next five weeks leading up to Ring Wars III? For his actions of the past two weeks -- and for a career made of memories -- I'd have to say yes. ************************************************************************** -------------- UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL: THE ARMED FORCES ----------------- ************************************************************************** [Cut to tape of Tim Dross is standing in the ring at the IIWF Coliseum in Portland. On the canvas, the IIWF logo is emblazoned in red and yellow. The lights are all off, save for a spotlight on Dross. He is pacing back and forth with a microphone in hand.] TD: Behold, the IIWF Coliseum. On August 24th, 1996, in this very ring, two young soldiers, the Armed Forces, defeated the High Plains Drifters to become IIWF World Tag Team Champions, in only their third month here. Led by their crafty, golf club wielding manager, Aaron the Caddy, the Forces quickly proved to be the most successful tag team champions in IIWF history, holding the titles for more than a month and a half, and more than half a dozen defenses. The Armed Forces have undergone a change as of late, without the titles, without Aaron the Caddy at ringside, and without the chicanery. Tonight, I get "up close and personal" with NavCom and DefCon, the Armed Forces. [The spotlight disappears and the scene cuts to Tim Dross sitting in an interview suite with NavCom and DefCon. Nav is wearing a "Ring Wars III" t-shirt, while DefCon has opted for a navy blue sweatsuit.] TD: Gentlemen, thanks for being here with me for this special interview. NC: Thank you, Dross. TD: I'm going to go back to your arrival in the IIWF with this first question. Your first match here was against the United Nations, Tora Tora Tora and Jacques K. Vorkian. After defeating them, you took it upon yourselves to administer a brutal golf club attack on the two fan favorites. Why did this take place? DC: When we got here, the word from the military was to become as well- known as we could as _fast_ as we could. We needed something which would grab the attention of the media, and of the front office here in the IIWF. NC: It wasn't really a planned attack or anything, but, after a big debut here in the fed, we had an adrenaline rush going, and then Aaron just tossed me a club. It all escalated from there. TD: Well, the U.N. never did return after that attack, and, in fact, you continued to terrorize the IIWF for quite some time. Why? NC: Once we'd put our foot in the bucket, we couldn't pull it back out. With every match, we became more and more brutal -- more fixed on winning, at all costs. Aaron kept telling us that as long as we kept winning matches, that he could get us fame and fortune. DC: To a couple of blue collar military men, fame and fortune was pretty appealing. In the Army, and I suppose the jobber Navy squad, too, [DefCon smiles devilishly at Nav, who mock laughs in return] it can be tough to get recognition. When we had this opportunity, our quest for success just overwhelmed us. Everything that Aaron told us was true, though... he got us everything he promised. TD: Including a title shot. DC: Including that title match with the High Plains Drifters. TD: Tell me a little bit about that. NC: I've never been so excited in my life. I could barely see the ring when I got to it; I was delirious with anxiety. We were somewhat intimidated at the thought of being in the ring with Pale and Easy -- two great tag team wrestlers. We had a lot of respect for them, that wasn't bull. It was just the thought of the titles that corrupted our game plan, and, as a result, once again, we used sneak attacks and golf clubs to win us the match. DC: Once we had the titles in our grasp, we wanted to do anything we had to to keep them. They were like an addiction, we had to have them. They ruled our lives for a long time, and, when we lost them, it was as if we'd lost a part of us... not just a status symbol. TD: Then you got into bed with Pain, Inc. How'd that go? DC: Hey, man, I didn't get into bed with any guys, but I think I know what you mean. [Dross chuckles.] We needed to get the belts back, we truly believed that. We attributed our downfall to the lack of friends. While teams like the Revolution and Stunt Team USA were looking out for each other, we were all alone. We thought that if _we_ had people watching our backs, it would be easier to regain the titles. We were wrong. NC: Things with Pain, Inc. worked out for a while, but there were just too many egos in that partnership. We told them that their only job was to prevent interference. They wouldn't listen. Instead, they used the opportunity to run in and showcase their own talents -- brawling. Morningstar and Hellraiser don't wrestle well in the ring, but they sure can fight. The result: numerous disqualifications and backfired attacks. The consequence: multiple losses for the Armed Forces. TD: How did the end come about? DC: Snow Brawl was the last straw. We were so focused on that match, and we wanted to win bad. We had been working for two months just to get into that match, and when it looked as if we were about to become new champions, Pain, Inc's interference blows it for us. Sure, we won the match, but we didn't get what we wanted. THE TITLES. NC: We had everything going for us. The intensity, the momentum, even the FANS for a change. We really felt we were the better men that night, and we didn't come out with the prize. That hurt. That failure took a lot out of us. We went on a mission to, once and for all, repay Pain, Inc. for what they'd done to us. They took advantage of our standing in the IIWF, rode our coattails to the peak of their careers, and screwed us out of the titles. We've been in our share of brawls with them as of late, and we were even cuffed to their managerial staff the other night. They've been cheating for far too long, and we'll get them sooner or later... you can count on it. TD: You mentioned having the fans on your side at Snow Brawl. You certainly have won the support of the fans in the last month here in the IIWF, no matter where you are. How has this... "new attitude" come to pass? NC: Snow Brawl turned it around. The fan support can be such a great feeling, and that was a feeling we wanted to experience again -- off the base. DC: And you can't forget the feud with Pain, Inc., either. When we started standing up to these two goons, the crowd sided with us. We've befriended the Zodiac Connection, and the fans just love us... it's great. TD: What's next for the Armed Forces? NC: I don't know, Dross. Right now, the fans are about the only thing we've got going for us. TD: How so? DC: We just can't seem to win a match anymore. Sure, we've beaten a team here and a team there, but we lost to New Domination the other night... NC: I gave up for crying out loud! I couldn't believe it! Perhaps we've lost the edge or something, I don't know, but whatever we're doing, it's not working. DC: I'm starting to get depressed, Tim... almost to the point that I just want to give up. With every passing week, some team's getting a shot at the title, some other team's headlining in a cage match, but what are the Armed Forces getting? At best, we're tied to a couple of managers in some other team's match! Now, as happy as we are to help out the Zodiacs, we need to get ourselves some action around here. TD: I think you may be over-analyzing. NC: Are we? Or are our best days behind us? Will we ever again reach the plateau of summer and fall of 1996? I'm not so sure... TD: Well, thank you guys, I hope you can cheer up sometime soon... have a safe trip home. DC: Thanks, Dross... whatever. NC: Oh, wait, before you leave... [NavCom reaches into a bag which is sitting on the table, and pulls out two small packages. The camera hits them, and they are NavCom and DefCon action figures. He hands them to Dross.] NC: The new action figures, still in the packages. I hope you like them. TD: Well... um... thank you. [The Forces shake hands with Dross, and then trudge out of the room, heads hanging.] The Armed Forces were rather subdued at the taping of that interview last night, but nothing would lift their spirits like a title shot. And let's not forget that they're involved in the big tournament for the IIWF United States Tag Team Championship. They're matched up with the Prophets of Rage in Saturday's opening round match -- that should be a dandy! ************************************************************************** ---------------------- WEDNESDAY NIGHT PREVIEW ------------------------- ************************************************************************** There is plenty of action scheduled for the IIWF Coliseum tomorrow night, and Becky LaRue and I will have all the results and highlights from tomorrow's show in the "Wednesday War Room."
