[At the bottom of the darkened screen read the words: June 21, 1997:  US Air Arena, Landover, Maryland. "Missing" by Everything But the Girl plays as quick clips of the Brody Thunder vs. Casey James No Disqualification Lumberjack Match are shown: James with a brainbuster suplex; Thunder with a running bulldog; Derek Mota with a headscissors hotshot; James backdropping Thunder off the ringpost; Thunder with the sleeper hold; Otto Verhoeven cleaning house with the steel steps; James with the Black Death spinebuster; Thunder with the Cattle Buster DDT... Thunder pinning James... 1 - 2 - 3. James pinning Thunder... 1 - 2 - 3. And then the words of acting President Steve Owens are heard:] SO: The IIWF Heavyweight Championship is now... vacant! [Cut to a shot of Casey James, standing alone at the top of the aisle. Cut to a shot of the bloodied Brody Thunder, standing alone in the middle of the ring.  Freeze frame on the shot of the lumberjacks, stunned as the announcement is read.  The shot and the music fade as the voice of Tim Dross from IIWF Saturday Night is heard:] TD: The game has changed, folks.  The game has changed..... I am your host Tim Dross, alongside my tag team colleague, Steve "Soundbite" Roberts, and tonight we have returned to our homebase in good ol' Portland, Oregon for the program that I personally have been waiting a long time for. SR: I'm guessin' it'll involve French toast and pictures of that bass your brother Hoss caught in Cazumel, right Dross? TD: So close, Steve Roberts.  Actually we are merely seconds away from revealing, for the first time any place, the brackets for the 32-man Coronation Clash Tournament... which is set to kick off this Saturday Night from the Gund Arena in Cleveland, Ohio. And as you saw at the top of the program... the game has indeed changed completely.  What was a tournament to crown a number one contender has become an all-out war where thirty-two men will compete for the greatest prize in all of sport: the IIWF Heavyweight Championship. SR: Aw, but it is tainted like a Jack In the Box bacon cheeseburger, Dross.  What a lousy night it turned out to be... Dynamite lost, Claw lost, both Pain Inc. and the Disciples got booted out of the Syndicate, and then that no-good, no-brained, cheese lovin' Steve "Don't bother Dan... he's in Barbados" Owens makes the bonehead decision of all time. TD: Well, it certainly was controversial, Steve Roberts.  Acting IIWF President Steve Owens stepped in when officials Dave D'Amato and Earl Alfonso nearly got into a shoving match due to a confusion over the decision... SR: Which one of those guys is Earl? TD: ...and with head referee Hugo Hugo, er, nowhere to be found, it was Owens who made the decision that the title match between Casey James and Brody Thunder would be declared a draw.  And not only that... and not only that, Steve Roberts, but Casey James was summarily stripped of the IIWF Championship belt, a belt which is now officially vacant. SR: Terrible.  Absolutely terrible.  Casey James was one of the greatest champions we've ever had... and to be treated like that?  To be discarded?  Relegated to the dustbin of history? TD: Here we go... SR: It was just an abomination.  An outrage.  And someone in the IIWF administration has to have the cajones to stand up and say that it is wrong. TD: Well, be that as it may, it is time, Steve Roberts.  It is time. We are set to take a look at the official thirty-two man brackets for the Coronation Clash Tournament... with the winner on July 12 to be crowned IIWF Heavyweight Champion.  Keep in mind, folks, Round One of the tournament will be held over the next two weeks, on Saturday 28 June in Cleveland and then Saturday 5 July in New York City, with the sixteen survivors going on to the enormous Coronation Clash pay-per-view, from the Fleet Center in Boston, Massachusetts on July 12.  All right, get your pencils in hand, fans... because here is your _First Look_ at the 1997 Coronation Clash Tournament! [Dross and Roberts turn to the video screen, which goes completely black, and then returns with the following bracket:] [ C. JAMES ]-. 5/7 |--[ ]-. [ T. CLAW ]-' | | |--[ ]-. G | | [ CREED ]-. | | R 28/6 |--[ ]-' | [ SAMPSON ]-' | O | | U |-- vs. winner of | Group B P | [ MAD DOG ]-. | 28/6 |--[ ]-. | [ S. LEBEC ]-' | | A | | |--[ ]-' | [ ENIGMA ]-. | 5/7 |--[ ]-' [ CAVALIER ]-' TD: Well, alliances will certainly be put to the ultimate test here in Group A.  Creed will meet Ike Sampson in what I am told will be the very first match of the tournament this Saturday Night... but, of more note, Syndicate vs. Syndicate on July 5th when Casey James takes on Tiger Claw in what promises to be a match unlike we have ever seen in the IIWF. SR: Well, it's damn wrong, Dross.  It's a crime against humanity, is what it is.  Outrageous.  Simply outrageous that the morons that run the IIWF couldn't think of anything better to do than try to destroy the Syndicate.  They put the Disciples against Pain Inc... and now James against Claw... I may boycott this tournament entirely. TD: Also we'll see contrasts of styles when Mad Dog Watkins takes on Simon Lebec this Saturday Night, and then next week when the newest superstar to join the IIWF, "The Cavalier" Kevin Christiansen, will meet the increasingly unpredictible "Enigma" Takezo Musashi. And what you also have to like here are the potential matchups down the road.  Will we see Creed take on the man from whom he almost wrested away the IIWF Championship, Casey James?  What about the possibility of Creed -- or even of Ike Sampson -- meeting Mad Dog Watkins in an Elite Eight matchup at Coronation Clash?  Or maybe it will be the Enigma against Tiger Claw?  Or what will happen if Simon Lebec and Casey James hook up for the right to go to the final four? SR: I'm gonna make this real clear, Dross.  This tournament belongs to Casey James.  If I know Brian Lau, he and the Syndicate saw this whole thing coming all the way up the block and they are working it out right now so that there is no way that anything will stop the "Blackheart" from becoming the first two-time champion in IIWF history! TD: Well, it certainly is an impressive group -- as is the other portion of the top half of the draw... let's take our _First Look_ at Group B. [ BUTCHER ]-. 5/7 |--[ ]-. [ QUIGLEY ]-' | | |--[ ]-. G | | [ MACBETH ]-. | | R 28/6 |--[ ]-' | [ K. CURTIS ]-' | O | | U |-- vs. winner of | Group A P | [SHAKESPEARE]-. | 5/7 |--[ ]-. | [ J. PETROW ]-' | | B | | |--[ ]-' | [ D. MOTA ]-. | 28/6 |--[ ]-' [FIRESTARTER]-' TD: Well, I know of two men who will barely be able to wait until July 5th when they meet in this first round matchup.  Otto Verhoeven and Chris Quigley will renew old acquaintances in what looks like, perhaps, the toughest match in all the first round. SR: You know, Dross, some people say I'm a little jaded, that just because I sleep like Jimmy Hoffa during the occasional Luke Steele match that I don't have the love of this sport that I once had.  And let me tell you Dross -- I'm all about the love.  Steve "Love" Roberts.  And nothing will get my love to flow... TD: Steve Roberts. SR: Nothing will get my love a turnin', burnin' and yearnin' than seeing the Butcher break Chrissie's back over the steel steps.  I may even write a poem about it. TD: Also on July 5 will be a tremendous opening round match between Joe Petrow and Billy Shakespeare... now that is certain to draw an intense amount of scrutiny. SR: Hey, Dross, are you aware that Petrow's never lost cleanly in the IIWF?  Six months -- never lost cleanly.  TD: Okay.  This Saturday Night will mark the entrance of two of the "interfederation" entries in the Coronation Clash Crusade Tournament: Ken Curtis of the NLWP will meet Duncan Macbeth; and the ESWP's Firestarter will take on Derek Mota. SR: Who invited these bums, Dross?  Who the hell cares if "Fire: Walk With Me" is in the tournament?  This is the IIWF -- what do we need guys from the minors in our tournament for? TD: Well, I don't know if the IIWF needs them, Steve Roberts.  But these are accomplished wrestlers within their own promotions. Firestarter is the ESWP European Champion and actually defeated our own Lord Byron... SR: [coughing] Screwjob. TD: And "Cowboy" Ken Curtis has been a star at the University of Texas and has formed a bit of a friendship, apparently, with the "Lone Wolf" Brody Thunder. SR: Well, it's nice that Brody has a friend.  I was getting worried about him, spending all that time on the bus with Larry Morton.  It's just not right, Dross, Larry needs his "alone time" so he can look at his Chuck Norris pictures. TD: Down the line, you have to be intrigued by some of the potential matchups. How about Billy Shakespeare against the man who he has recorded a couple of recent pinfalls over -- Chris Quigley.  Or maybe a showdown between Quigley and Joe Petrow.  Or we could see an Elite Eight matchup between Derek Mota, who impressively defeated Tiger Claw on Saturday Night, and Otto Verhoeven, who has long looked to regain Federation gold.  Throw in the outside entrants and young Macbeth in the mix... and you've got quite a bracket here in group B. SR: As long as I see Otto snap Quigley's head like a freaking toothpick, I couldn't care less what the hell happens in group B, Dross. TD: Well, that's the top half of the draw.  Two former champions, Otto Verhoeven and Casey James, will look to become the first men to repeat as World Champs... Billy Shakespeare, Tiger Claw and the Enigma will look to add to their collections of IIWF gold with the biggest belt of all... and three men whose sole IIWF goal has been to win the IIWF Heavyweight Championship, Joe Petrow, Chris Quigley and Creed, will all look to advance their ways through to the finals.  A tremendous upper half of the bracket, Steve Roberts. SR: No, there's Casey James... there's the Butcher... and there's everybody else, Dross.  They might as well go to the NAACP, or NAMBLA or whatever that other promotion is called, because none of them have a chance to make the final four. TD: Let's now move on to the bottom half of the draw with a look at Group C. [ B THUNDER ]-. 28/6 |--[ ]-. [ KID EGO ]-' | | |--[ ]-. G | | [ DIRT DOG ]-. | | R 5/7 |--[ ]-' | [ S. ANNIS ]-' | O | | U |-- vs. winner of | Group D P | [ T. STARKS ]-. | 5/7 |--[ ]-. | [ M. DAMAGE ]-' | | C | | |--[ ]-' | [ 'BRINGER ]-. | 28/6 |--[ ]-' [ B. FLAGG ]-' TD: The third and final former Heavyweight Champion in the field of thirty-two is the Deathbringer, and he will meet another "outsider," Black Flagg of the ESWP, in a match that takes place this Saturday Night.  And the fourth and final of these "outsiders" is the former NLWP Champion, a man named Kid Ego, and he'll meet "Lone Wolf" Brody Thunder, the current NLWP World Champion, in a match this Saturday Night. SR: You know what you have to wonder, Dross, what sort of shape Brody Thunder will be in for this one.  Everyone thought the guy would be wearing the belt by now... except me... and I don't think he'll be able to rev himself up by next Saturday.  You want a Round One upset, Dross? You want an upset?  How 'bout this punk Ego beating Brody Thunder right out of the building in Round One. TD: Well, it certainly could happen, Steve Roberts.  What will happen is a New York homecoming for two of the IIWF's superstars on July 5th. Cruiserweight Champion Dirt Dog Unique Allah from Brooklyn will meet the other member of that "Unholy Alliance", Serge Annis... and Staten Island native Tony Starks will finally get the opportunity to put his feud with Mr. Damage to rest when they hook up at the Manhattan Center. SR: Not much to pick from here, Dross -- maybe an Elite Eight match between Annis and Deathbringer.  Maybe a Sweet Sixteen match with Thunder and Unique... maybe it'll be Damage, Dross.  Damage is a guy that deserves a little respect around here, just keeps plugging away -- just keeps beating people and beating people.  I say he kicks the hell out of Starks and the Dead man; maybe it's Damage who knocks down this spot in the Final Four.  TD: Entirely possible, Steve Roberts.  Any one of these thirty-two men could find himself in the final four... or could find himself strapping on the IIWF gold at the end of the evening. And here, finally, is Group D -- if your favorite hasn't been called yet... hopefully he'll be here. [ H'WAYMAN ]-. 5/7 |--[ ]-. [ N'WING ]-' | | |--[ ]-. G | | [ L. BYRON ]-. | | R 28/6 |--[ ]-' | [ R. PARIS ]-' | O | | U |-- vs. winner of | Group C P | [ WARNETT ]-. | 28/6 |--[ ]-. | [ L. STEELE ]-' | | D | | |--[ ]-' | [ REQUIEM ]-. | 5/7 |--[ ]-' [ S. ROGERS ]-' TD: Well, maybe the most intriguing group of all, Steve Roberts -- it is Group D, and it is headed up by the Intercontinental Champion, Lord Byron.  SR: Easy road for Byron, I gotta say.  Forget about Dirt Dog; you want a man who might be ready to wear double gold... it's gotta be Byron. TD: Well, I would absolutely regard Lord Byron as a favorite in this tournament... but it is hardly an easy road.  He'll have to meet Ronnie Paris in the first round this Saturday Night from Cleveland.  And also coming up on Saturday will be the hometown boy, Luke Steele, returning to the place of his birth to meet former Intercontinental Champion, Marty Warnett.  SR: Any way that match can be a double disqualification on account of that each of them sucks? TD: Then there are the July 5 matches... and you know there are going to be some unhappy people in Genesis camp because of this one.  Requiem will meet Scott Rogers... and then the Highwayman is matched up against Nightwing. SR: Okay, here's where I begin to feel the love again, Dross.  Forget Requiem/Rogers... I couldn't care less about those guys... but the Chickenwing is going to hook up with Dead Guy number 2 in the first round!  That is tremendous.  I'm looking forward to a good old fashioned cat fight in that one. TD: And then the Sweet Sixteen possibilities are tremendous... how about Ronnie Paris and Nightwing... or Highwayman meeting Lord Byron?  What about Marty Warnett meeting the Requiem -- or perhaps Scott Rogers hooking up with Luke Steele?  And then what could be pay-per-view stealing matchups in the Elite Eight... will we see Requiem vs. Highwayman? Or how about Marty Warnett against Lord Byron one more time? I would have to say that it might well be this group here to which I am personally most looking forward.  SR: Okay, Dross.  Let's go... make your picks.  Come on buddy, lay it on the line for the people. TD: Well, I'll do just that at the end of the program. You and I will each make a few predictions for the fans.  But right now it's time to announce that all of you great IIWF fans will also have the ability to make your own Coronation Clash Crusade Predictions. That's right, folks.  Fill in your own brackets... mark your selctions and then debate them with your friends as you watch all the action.  And -- and to sweeten the deal, the fan who wins picks the most winners... who wins the Coronation Clash Picks Contest... will gain a tremendous prize: the right to _make the matches_ on a future IIWF Saturday Night! SR: What the hell are you talking about, Dross?  TD: Well, Steve Roberts.  Here are the rules.  Send in your picks for each match of the Coronation Clash Crusade Tournament to "Inside the IIWF" at brokeback@webtv.net and if you have the most winners picked -- you will be contacted on July 12, immediately following the pay-per-view... and then on a future IIWF Saturday Night, you will get to "Make The Matches".  Friends against friends... foes against foes... maybe you want to see a ten man tag.  Done.  Maybe you want to see a handicap match.  Done.  Maybe you want to see The Smooth get a shot at the IIWF Heavyweight Champion... Done... Done.. Done. Whatever you want -- you got -- if you are the winner of the Coronation Clash Crusade Contest! SR: Ah, that's just great, Dross.  How many exploding barbed wire baseball matches do we have to watch on one night? TD: Well, anything can and will happen in the IIWF, Steve Roberts. Now, we have a point system for the tournament.   Get out those pencils, people. Round One: 2 points per winner Sweet Sixteen: 4 points per winner Elite Eight: 8 points per winner Final Four: 15 points per winner Finals: 25 points.  That's right, folks... send in your picks to brokeback@webtv.net for the Coronation Clash Crusade Contest... and send them in quickly. Your brackets are due by Midnight Pacific Time this Thursday.  That's two days away, folks.  Get those completed brackets in today!   SR: I'll take Duke, Dross.  Duke and the Butcher.  Hey, wasn't that a Brothers' Grimm story?  TD: It's the Coronation Clash Tournament, Steve Roberts. One of those thirty-two superstars is on his way to becoming IIWF Heavyweight Champion! Don't miss a moment! ************************************************************************ -------------------- FIRST LOOK: Wednesday War Room -------------------- ************************************************************************ TD: Well, the Coronation Clash Tournament certainly grabs the headlines, but it is not the only hot story going on in the IIWF. Here is your _First Look_ at all the Wednesday action! 1. Kevin "the Cavalier" Christiansen vs. "Nifty" Ned Norton [J] 2. "Cowboy" Ken Curtis vs. Casey C. [J] 3. Black Flagg vs. Scott "the Whine" Bloom [J] 4. Firestarter vs. Barnacle Brother Bluto [J] 5. Kid Ego vs. El Super Gecko [J] 6. The Nightriders vs. The Rotundos [J] 7. The Harlequins vs. The Zodiac Connection 8. The Last Resort vs. Dark Disciples [will face winners of Hollywood Bloods vs. Pain Inc. (scheduled for Wednesday 2 July) at Coronation Clash on July 12] TD: Not only will we see the IIWF debut of The Cavalier, but we will also see the four "outsiders" take their places in the IIWF ring prior to their Tournament matchups.  That will certainly be entertaining, as will the debut of a new IIWF tag team, the Nightriders, featuring a man familiar to IIWF viewers -- the "Jackhammer" J.P. Steele. SR: Which one was Earl, again? TD: We'll also see two additional tag team contests, Steve Roberts. The Harlequins will meet the Zodiac Connection and the Dark Disciples -- who finally were able to put Pain Inc behind them, but were then shockingly turned on by James and Claw -- will meet the Last Resort, with the winner going on to Coronation Clash on July 12th!  It certainly should be an exciting night of wrestling on the War Room.  ************************************************************************ -------------------- FIRST LOOK: IIWF Saturday Night ------------------- ************************************************************************ TD: Well, we have already talked about the bulk of the Saturday card as Round One of the Coronation Clash Crusade Tournament will kick off from the Gund Arena in Cleveland along with a highly anticipated tag team encounter. Here is your _First Look_ at all the action! 1. Creed vs. Ike Sampson 2. Duncan Macbeth vs. "Cowboy" Ken Curtis 3. Derek Mota vs. Firestarter 4. "Lone Wolf" Brody Thunder vs. Kid Ego 5. Cold Spell vs. Violence Unlimited 6. "Showstopper" Simon Lebec vs. Mad Dog Watkins 7. Deathbringer vs. Black Flagg 8. Marty Warnett vs. "Real Deal" Luke Steele 9. Lord Byron vs. Ronnie Paris TD: Indeed, smack dab in the middle of all of that tournament excitement will be a match that has been in the offing for weeks and weeks: Cold Spell will meet Violence Unlimited in a grudge match, the winner of which will go on... listen to this, folks... the winner of this match will go on to meet the IIWF Tag Team Champions in a title match at Coronation Clash! What a tremendous night of action, a tremendous week of action we have coming to all of you live from Cleveland, Ohio this coming Saturday Night!  Don't miss even a second of all the great action! SR: I'm sorry, I wasn't listening.  You know, Dross... I'm beginning to miss those days on the road... the bondage club... the Mexcian prison... the voodoo chapel... young Chelsea's graduation party... TD: Classics?  No Classics?  Classics?  No Classics? SR: What do you suppose happened to Hugo Hugo? TD: All right.  I guess there's our answer.  Then don't forget to join Larry Morton and Jackson Witt as they "Countdown to IIWF Saturday Night"... and finally please join all of us for the finest two hours of live wrestling anywhere in the world... IIWF Saturday Night!  So, for Steve Roberts and all of us here at "Inside the IIWF", I am Tim Dross saying: get those brackets in, folks... and good night, everybody.
